Linda Noble-Haeusslein, PhD
Co-Investigator and UT Austin Site Lead
Dr. Noble-Haeusslein is a Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Neurology, the College of Liberal Arts and the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin. She graduated from the University of Utah and the University of Nevada with a B.S. in Physical Therapy and completed her PhD in Anatomy at the University of California at Los Angeles. After her postdoctoral fellowship at Georgetown University, Dr. Noble-Haeusslein was recruited to the University of California at San Francisco where she was a professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Departments of Neurosurgery and the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy. In 2017, Dr. Noble-Haeusslein was recruited to UT Austin where she serves as Co-Director of CARE (Cellular and Clinically Applied Rehabilitation Engineering), an organization funded by the College of Engineering, that supports cross-disciplinary research aimed at restoring function. She is actively involved in the Society for Neurotrauma and the Society for Neuroscience and has served on a number of NINDS study sections, including chairing the NIH NSDA study section. Dr. Noble-Haeusslein has co-authored 3 reports by the Institute of Medicine that collectively address nutrition and long-term consequences of traumatic brain injuries. Her research relies on preclinical models of neurotrauma and cellular, molecular, and behavioral tools to map those key pathogenic mechanisms, emerging acutely post injury, that are determinants of long-term recovery. This multifaceted approach has led to the discovery of new pharmacologic and stem-cell based therapeutics that ameliorate deficits in locomotor function and bladder function and central neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury as well as improved cognition after traumatic brain injury.
