Deadline: August 31, 2019

Submit An Entry!

Recognizing the visual and expressive value of scientific imagery, the 2nd Annual Regenerative Rehabilitation Science Image Contest is seeking original, striking visual representations that capture the essence of the scientific field of Regenerative Rehabilitation.

Sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh and AR3T, the Regenerative Rehabilitation Science Image Competition offers a unique opportunity to not only show off compelling science images but to also produce an award-winning, symbolic representation for this cutting-edge research field.

The images will be judged for their visual aesthetics, originality, evocative message and scientific significance. Images should exemplify the beauty and scientific content that a peer-reviewed journal would seek as its cover image. Images can depict an object or phenomenon from any discipline related to regenerative medicine or physical and rehabilitative medicine although, ideally, the images should depict the fusion of these two scientific fields.  We welcome any method of producing an image including, but not limited to:  Microscopy, Photography, Medical imaging, Science-as-art, Schematics, and Photos. Please review the Image Guidelines for more information.

Prize Award

$750 will be awarded to the winner.  Also, the image will be displayed at the 2019 Annual International Symposium on Regenerative Rehabilitation.

Contest Rules

  • Entrants may submit up to three (3) images BUT must submit a separate entry form for each image submitted.
  • Each image submission must be accompanied by a brief caption describing the activity or situation depicted. If a photograph is submitted, please include the date, location and country where the photo was taken and, where appropriate, the name of the person(s) photographed.
  • Entrants may withdraw from the contest at any time. Once submitted, however, entries will not be returned.

Judging Criteria

  • Entries will be judged on subject matter relevance, originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. The story behind the photo may influence the judges’ decisions. Decisions made by the judges are final.

2018 Winner

Mr. Kiyoshi Yoshioka, of Nagasaki University, was the winner of the first-ever Regenerative Rehabilitation Science Image Contest with his depiction of a regenerating muscle fiber over a photo depicting the heterogeneity of muscle stem cells.
