Image Guidelines

  • Submissions may be either still photographs or illustrations. Videos are not eligible.
  • Digital images or scans of prints may be uploaded. Original files of camera-made digital photos may not exceed five megabytes (5 MB). The University of Pittsburgh cannot be responsible for lost, damaged, late or misdirected entries, or for faulty uploading connections, garbled transmissions, unauthorized intervention, or technical malfunctions.
  • Images may be captured using personal digital devices (smartphones, digital still cameras) or digital devices incorporated into imaging instruments used in the course of lab-based life-science research (fluorescence or electron microscopes, for example).
  • Color and monochrome images are eligible. Color enhancement is allowed.
  • Preferred file formats: psd, tiff, jpg. Other formats will be accepted if they meet the photo submission guidelines.
  • Resolution: We seek large-format images of at least 4000 pixels in either width or height. Images should be submitted at their original resolution, not resampled or resized.
  • Entrants may be asked to provide higher-resolution images for publication or display purposes.
  • Entries are restricted to original images/photography that have not been published elsewhere.
  • Excluded from submission: images that have won other contests, are currently entered in other contests, or are identical (produced from the same image data or series of image data) or similar (cropped or retouched versions) to another submitted work.
